HEALTH MANAGEMENT BY SCALABLE INTEGRATED MEDICAL INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES
(HE-MAN by SIMIT)
Health policies developed for aging population typically focus on the importance of home-based healthcare services where the goal is to provide optimum healthcare while preserving the patient's comfort level. Typically aging patients have difficulty of frequently visiting the hospital for continuous surveillance of their health status. Hence, this STREP proposes to demonstrate the efficacy of using novel wearable biomedical technologies combined with adaptive intelligent expert systems of clinical decision making in improving the life quality of the aging population. HE-MAN by SIMIT approach is geared towards geriatric use with a major emphasis on recommending public health policies and technologies to "establish demographic scenarios; to improve the understanding of health determinants; to assess the quality and performance of health care … of an ageing population." The innovation focuses on the creation of the Personal Health Model (PHM), an on-line expert system that is a combination of statistical and analytical physiological models tailored for each individual that best describe the relationship between clinical findings and health. Integration of PHM to telemedicine instruments is proposed to lead to a preventive medicine approach where the changing trends of health are evaluated systematically and warnings are generated only when clinical interventions are required. HE-MAN by SIMIT project will include experts on policy making in order to recommend strategies and new policies for handling aging population's healthcare needs.
